Last of Questions, which is the science month, means that Honour is next up. This is both a look back and forward, as the new year (2023) looms. 

In August of 2015, we did a post using photos from a Green Acre, ME visit by lots of folks to see the Master. There are many in the photo that we know of and want to research further. For instance, the Ober family was involved with the property and were friends of the family. There was an index made of the persons there. Some were not known. A few children were shown, one of whom is the grandmother of known persons. 

One motivation for this work is that ME was part of MA until the Missouri Compromise of 1820 which was a couple of hundred years ago. Too, at that point, the western migrations were just beginning. From our research, New England's long reach is there throughout what we call the frontier century. Besides that commemoration, we have the 250th of the Revolution and many families there supported the patriot cause which forced the split from the Crown's overview. 

And, going back further, many of these families are descendants of original colonists. We mentioned Lunt's ancestry, but some of the other names are Ober, Woodbury, Thompson, Spinney, Russell, Pease, Morse, Brewster, and others. Massachusetts has had two 400ths so far: Plymouth (2020) and Weymouth (2022). Next year, Gloucester (2023) will recognize their heritage which involves an effort to establish agriculture and fishery entities under the auspices of the Dorchester Company. Of note is that a lot of the leadership came from the Cambridge side of things. 

From a cultural sense, what happened in the New World has parallels with what happened worldwide over more than a century where we have symmetry now using 1844 as the pivot. Those are studies that need to be identified, described and supported over the next few decades, especially given the newest perturbations that come via the introduction of complexity via computational frameworks going wild. 

This is introductory. See the original post for the photo links and the list of attendees. To make this interesting, at the same time, we will be looking at the unfolding of modern mathematics over the same timeframe. And, one can use Harvard (400th coming up) and its mathematical history (especially, using the Peirce family) for comparative purposes.

7V4V and Night Journey

There have been many posts on the theme of the Seven and Four Valleys. There could be an endless number of these. 

The post on the "Night Journey" Surah got me looking at other literature where the Seven Sky theme is discussed. Found some wonderful examples, plus graphics. This is taken from one (see last post). 

Have not gone beyond Search, yet; this exercise got me to look at it closely. The mapping is obvious. So, in the spirit of 100,000 years, we'll see how this goes. Perhaps, the chord aspect will get a first look done quickly.

12/20/2022 --  Okay, full circle. Earlier in the year, I ran into the Hermes connection. I was looking at what's missing with what I call AIn't which is a mechanical mode mimicking (supposedly) mankind's facilities which are not under anyone's thumb, nor will they be. So, lots to bring back to discussion there. Rhetoric was of interest especially when one sees what Google is up to with respect to chat. No amount of this type of manipulation will get beyond this maxim: AIn't can't Kant. Yet, computers have a place which will be remarkable after a few things are settled which will allow the latent energies to flow. Now, having been going through an umpteenth pass through the Koran (Rodwell), I recently resaw the "Night Journey" (which was the theme of this, and of the last, post). 7V4V popped out immediately. So, I did this, but what of Enoch? Tonight I went back to see what was the support for  this story, in terms of provenance of the material. That theme will become more important as we get more reliant upon people using their own eyes and brain (common theme). I read some posts that I had earlier, but then Mary (19:56) came up. That gets my attention due to the Bab's mention of Christians being the Apple of His Eye. Too, of late, I have taken the 'image of God' theme further in that the Hidden Words suggest this several ways. Too, equality and justice? It ain't gonna happen without mutual respect. When we have the obvious differences? Yet, we can change the words to think 'infinity' where we show the physics/math modes are inhibiting. Can we? You bet. Then, we can consider that talking of how two infinities relate comes to fore. We can do this, too. It's quite simple. However, it's a side trip, for now. The 'image' theme then gets us back to creation and being children of God. How does that apply within philosophy? Lots to discuss, but we already had that with the paper accessible from the above link (Hermes). Back to the graphic of seven.  Enoch and Idris are part of the Islamic tradition. But, it goes further, if you look at the philosophical statements by Baha'u'llah. ... As an aside, being universal, switching gears as we will be back to the theme again and again (see posts here on cycles), there is a book out of the yoga culture from the last decade of 1800. Now, in that book, the yoga scholars noted similarities twixt portions of the OT and the NT and Vedic writings. In fact, the discipline is explained, very well. Too, a puzzle was resolved (see Aqdas mention - bones, as the clue) alluding to this culture. At the same time (synonymous, almost), thoughts in the middle east relate (as seen by a description out of Hasidic scholarship). Not only can one see parallels across all of the cultures, but some of the more puzzling ones can be brought into the discussion. Oblique mode? Not really. Back to Enoch, which Unity relates to. Using this yesterday with respect to Adam and Search made a whole lot of sense. A tradition of Adam crying when his people (all of us) were in Hell and laughing when they were in Heaven will be on the table, with respect to a Prayer sent to a New Englander by the Master (there are posts here on that). That Jesus and John the Baptist are of Love is quite resonant at all levels. Then, Joseph of Knowledge? We'll stop with Enoch's Unity as our whole framework for creating a balance flows through there. I'll put up a graphic here used earlier and quit, for now. 

Chords? Ah, the power of music and its mathematical cousins. Philosophy is not merely a discipline of words, only. We can use Kant's thoughts, given his timeframe (before the limit of the two types of knowledge was dropped; but very good at describing the issues despite the handicap). Oh yes, situational aspects of late that need attention and more than passing interest with respect to these themes: See JP and RC-H discussion of a new approach to therapy.

Image of God

My theme is science and religion, principally with respect to computation and its important contributions to the theme. Science is abetted by computation; religion is not so much, except for the various types of suites of organizing systems. Both require humans to be at their best, in all ways. 

So, technical issues have been the center of attention. But, the other day, I talked to a Christian theologian whose study deals with the 'Image of God' from the Old Testament. I would add that the concept is also prominent in the Jewish religious thinking which fact I became more aware of lately due to my reading on Hasidic teachings. To my surprise, the whole of the worldview is quite powerful, allowing me some insight into the long years of patiently enduring the tests of living a Jewish life. 

Now, there had been reviews of the book by the theologian which covered the discussions over the ages, stressing several characters from my past such as Aquinas and Augustine from the past and others who are more recent whom I did not know of due to their being of the Protestant persuasion. Remarkedly, seeing that this work has continued was thrilling, since the pure technical view drains imagination and a lot more. 

But, it turns out that one of the Pontifical Universities of Rome published a view of the book which was even more a bunch of encouragement. In fact, that got me to realize that I need to now include theology (starting with a small 't') in my arguments with respect to science and religion where operational decisions are stressed as being of proper focus. 

Small 't' needs some explanation. Publicly, in the case of science, we cannot bring in big 'T' now and expect reasonable reactions. Let's talk that. We can, though, argue for approaches that will bridge, such as 'psychether' as a proposal,  more axiomatic than hypothetical. Of course, this approach is dealing with the harder views of science. The computer allows the subject to get attention. 

That is easily explained. Take AIn't with its mathematical basis. We would be better off lifting the technical material to public view even if it is altered for consumption. There would be nothing hidden as abstract views can always be wedded with their details (somewhat faithfully). Sufficient examples are extant after our two decades plus of the network-spawned modes. Again, lots to discuss here. 

But, after some pondering, diving into the Christian hermeneutics and other quarrel-raising methods without a safety net would be quite tedious, perhaps even unhealthy. So, what is there in Islam on the subject? Turns out to be lots and lots to consider. 

Example: The Image of God in the Qur'an. There are plenty of other examples, but my take on this is that using 'Image of Adam' would be without any controversy being raised. That is, God created Adam, and we are of Him. Mind you, the small 't' would require that all voices be heard. We have the ability now to do this which is a side-effect of truth engineering which is a natural consequence of taking proper action in this regard. 

But, what of Baha'i? Well, we have this, for an example: Prolegomena to a Bahá’í Theology. Okay. This is from 1992. Myself, I have worked independently for five decades and am ready to write some notes about the necessary studies for the purpose of helping people understand how complex systems (general sense, not that related to the 'butterfly effect' and variants to that theme). 

Which allows me to back up. What started all of this was going back to Kant whom I had not paid attention to since I found out about Baha'u'llah. And, immediately, a meme came up which extended one that I already had leading to this: AIn't can't Kant. Where the reference to Immanuel is multi-faceted. 

I will not apologize for the style that I am using having developed it to allow a spectral notion to be conveyed in the valley of those who like to fight over polarities that might not even be true. It's not poetry, either. Rather, the notion is that when we have computer systems supposedly beating people with word-based tests, something is wrong. Words is one of the attributes of God that are formulated through the means given us by the Bab for managing time-oriented events. 

Cutting this short, for now, but we can address all of the ramifications implied above. I am in my ninth decade and will work this as I can. I have decades of research. Something to note, perhaps, would be the recent discussions that reveal another bit of research over the same timeframe as mine. This has to do with psychedelic-based approaches to therapy. 

Another approach would use insights from working with the above themes with an explicit feed into the decision process, covering the totality of analytic and synthetic modes.

While researching today, I ran into this site. Probably have seen it from time to time over the years. Perhaps, it's because I don't generally do searches on Baha'i subjects. Rather, I go to the on-line libraries and browse/search, having spent decades with the printed Writings before we saw the brief time (25 years) of the web. 

One thing that is attractive is the old style. I still have pages like that being maintained. But, the scholarship is first rate. Learned a few things today; the old guys has not said that a lot, lately.

Gog and Magog

This is one of those rare times when we have a triple, of month, day, and day of the week. And, Perfection? We will get back to these. 

For some reason, 'Gog and Magog' has been gnawing at me, from some memory of long ago which had to do with Jewish friends. Of late, I have been reading a book about the Hasidic view of the world. Very interesting, mainly due to my Catholic upbringing which consisted of immersion in the Testaments, mostly the New. For some reason, I had a notion that this dealt with technology. Will track that down. 

In terms of technology, people are infatuated greatly with what I call AIn't which has a technical purpose. We will be getting to that, in terms of truth engineering. As someone mentioned today in a forum, academia has looked at this forever, it seems. So, where are the failings? Are there failings? Well, we see a fantasy, essentially, being the basis for major world views. Wait, that argument can be made from several other angles, as well. 

So, how to proceed? Well, as before, with some commentary plus pointers to material. First, Gog and Magog from three major views.

Too, the merging of a new approach to cognition will be part of the dynamic. Not the least, changes in attitude about mathematics, and computing, will allow hitherto fore ignored discussions and work.  

Throughout all of this, stabilizing influences will come via cultures across the board, and the world, offering their insights gained over time and through locational imperatives.

Degradation

The World Order of Baha'u'llah: 

  Incontrovertible as is this truth, its challenging character should never be allowed to obscure the purpose, or distort the principle, underlying the utterances of Bahá’u’lláh—utterances that have established for all time the absolute oneness of all the Prophets, Himself included, whether belonging to the past or to the future. Perfection, beyond duals

We have duals of many types, some of which propel cognitive views which are commendable such as how mathematics abets science. 

One has to consider 'subjective faith' in this regard where science agrees with other than materialistic views. Actually, at the basis of modern thought, it is very much so as complex systems (and their many analogs) pertain to little that is 'real' (street sense) without some major morphs coming about. There are knotty items around always, with some old and some new. How can we differentiate? Ought we?

AI is an example that will be of interest for as long as people breathe. What the Writings can bring is a view that can inspire even if it does so cursorily. Even is this true for the Koran/Quran where many ideas that relate currently to a scientific/western thrust can map back, albeit morphed in ways that are to be studied. 

Without further ado, let's just review a notion: Valleys, again. One can see Unity as a region of phasic change, several ways. But, all the way through these partitionings, there is such. 

Mentioning AI, again? It may be that the computational framework can support an unfolding of the lower modes in order to allow mankind to excel in new ways. One key issue now that needs serious attention is the top-down structure as has been exemplified in the cloud (which is muddy almost to the state of opaqueness) which in no way enhances the user. That issue can be resolved. 

An example, a slight perturbation of Spinoza's Ethics would apply. Many have seen this. One problem is the barriers to understanding that have resulted from current methods of mathematics and its child, computationalism. 

The theme will be ongoing as the dynamics of religion/science continue. This realm of open problems was one motivation for the model sketched in the last post.

This is a continuation from a bit of work in 2009. Why October? Far enough in the year to have seen the sweep around the bottom, Names, Might, Will and upward via Knowledge and beyond. Mostly, the 'yearly measure' does not diminish through the activities of the year.

Earlier, we considered at the Month and its Days where we can look across the way and see the nuances of coming and going. So, that was, mostly, reflecting on Light <-> Questions. The former? Teleological. The latter? Basis of science and knowledge acquisition. Or, Names <-> Will. Being and its actions. 

But, the demarcations are loose, so we could have Grandeur, Light, Mercy <-> Questions. Or, its inverse of Mercy <-> Power, Speech, Questions. 

No end to the mappings. The issue revolves around determining influences as they relate to choices. 

So, we approach an end and start again.

Month and day

We seem to like Sunday for posts. This is a look-back to the post-Fast period last year: Monthly reflect. Following that, we are at Light ==> Questions. 

As mentioned, it is hard to grasp Transcendent and Ascendant, though there are many ways that we will approach this in terms of the balance of religion and science. Teleological, Operational, and Motivational deal closely with our daily lives and lots of things like efficacy. 

That transition of Names, Might, and Will is right there with respect to time and evolution in all of its aspects. The use of evolution is broad and pertains to progress through time as we deal with matter (and energy). Computational systems are a late example. 

The importance? Let's say, AIn't. Yet, it is, as we need to learn more about intelligence, of ourselves, animals and all other creatures. Human talents are still being left undiscovered. Without a change at the core, that lack of sight will continue.

The unfoldment

We have been pursuing the Guardian's Word Order of Baha'u'llah of late, after a bit of time spent with the Koran (Rodwell's). Along that vein, we are also studying the interplay with science and religion as one might observe in today's world. Science is still being defined; religion has been ongoing. 

The following comes from the section titled "The Unfoldment of World Civilization" and its subsection "Deterioration of Christian Institutions":

The indwelling Spirit of God which, in the Apostolic Age of the Church, animated its members, the pristine purity of its teachings, the primitive brilliancy of its light, will, no doubt, be reborn and revived as the inevitable consequence of this redefinition of its fundamental verities, and the clarification of its original purpose. 

For the Faith of Bahá’u’lláh—if we would faithfully appraise it—can never, and in no aspect of its teachings, be at variance, much less conflict, with the purpose animating, or the authority invested in, the Faith of Jesus Christ.

No White House, Congress

Month, Day: 178, Honour, Perfection (Majesty)

During his visit in  1812, the Master made it to the White House, but President (and cousin) Taft bailed. The Master also did not make it to Congress. 

    At 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue

But, the Library of Congress received a visit. Significances abound.
