Since there are four, the Valleys (Self of God, remembrance of God, neither reason nor authority, blackest of nights)? The Spirits (mineral, vegetative, animal, human). Earlier, there was a mapping to the intellectual attributes: Imagination, Thought, Comprehension, Memory.
All sorts of mysteries abound and can help insight if time is spent in reflection.
